How does blackberry internet differ from that of a regular cell phone?

I have Verizon and am confused on how blackberry's work versus regular cell phones. If you turn off internet access on a blackberry, you cannot make phone calls or text messages. Why is this? Does their internet function on a different frequency? Can anyone explain how a blackberry works?

BlackBerry devices can make calls and receive text messages even if a data plan is not active. However, Verizon is a carrier that requires that you add the BlackBerry data plan if you are going to be using a BlackBerry on their network. Removing the data plan is not an option like it is with other carriers.

I want to buy a cell phone that can access the internet. I have ATT. My razor has internet access, but i can't browse web sights and stuff like I want. Which phone do you recommend. Any other suggestions besides phones that arent' too expensive?

The really good ones are the ones that will cost 350 dollars and above.

Yes, sooner or later everyone will have something more like what we think of as a smart phone today. I'm not sure how long it will take, maybe 5 years or so. But eventually the technology does filter down to everyone.

From our dining room, we can see a nearby wireless tower outside the window. Our cell phone signal is good. But our wireless internet signal in the backyard is a bit weak. I suppose the wireless tower is just for cell phones. Am I right? Are the two signals different in frequency, etc?

Yes, generally one refers to a wireless radio signal used by cell phones and broadband "hotspot modems", and the other refers to a signal provided by a Wi-Fi router or access point.

If your wireless router supports additional access points or repeaters, you could buy one and put it on the back side of the house, or if it has separate antennae you could see if longer or higher-power antennae are made for that router.

Question by JB: Is there a way to bundle a cell phone plan and internet WITHOUT a home phone line?
We are thinking about getting rid of our home phone line and just using cell phones, but we'd like to keep our internet. Is there a bundle for that? Also, will some companies pay for you to switch to them (pay the fee to leave another one). For example, will AT&T pay the fee to break our contract with Verizon?
