What is the difference between wireless cell phone signal and wireless internet signal?

Question by jveryrad: What is the difference between wireless cell phone signal and wireless internet signal?
From our dining room, we can see a nearby wireless tower outside the window. Our cell phone signal is good. But our wireless internet signal in the backyard is a bit weak. I suppose the wireless tower is just for cell phones. Am I right? Are the two signals different in frequency, etc?

Yes, generally one refers to a wireless radio signal used by cell phones and broadband "hotspot modems", and the other refers to a signal provided by a Wi-Fi router or access point.

If your wireless router supports additional access points or repeaters, you could buy one and put it on the back side of the house, or if it has separate antennae you could see if longer or higher-power antennae are made for that router.
