When did text messaging first become available on cell phones?

Question by MacBuckeye: When did text messaging first become available on cell phones?

Well the first cell phone came out in July 1973, but the first with texting was a simple Motorola beeper in 1989.

But the first SMS message was claimed to be sent by Riku Pihkonen, an engineer student at Nokia, in 1993.

  • Package includes: 1 Anker® 18W / 3.6A Car Charger, instruction manual.

Full speed for two
At 18W / 3.6A, Anker's Car Charger is the first and only adapter capable of allowing the latest version of iPad and a smartphone to achieve their fully-intended charging speeds, simultaneously. Compatible with both Apple and Android devices, and powerful enough to handle future releases, this may well be the last charger you'll ever have to buy.

Quality first
Unlike some competitors, we use only top-grade microchips in the manufacturing of our chargers. The reason behind this is simple: we'll always value reliability and speed over cost. We realize the importance of keeping your products safe, so we've incorporated a unique dual-circuit protection system for Apple and Android, too. With CE / FCC authentication and an 18-month warranty, rest easy knowing we stand behind our work.

Low-profile power
Not only is the Anker® Car Charger the most powerful adapter on the market, it's also among the smallest in size (beating out even most 10W / 15W options). Our goal was to build something light, unobtrusive, and compact that would get the job done with minimal distraction. For further convenience, take a look at our model featuring a built-in micro USB cable for Android.

I didn't have my first cellphone until I was about halfway through 8th grade, but that was like.... 8 years ago when all this started happening...

I mean as long as you are old enough to be responsible with it. Keep in mind your parents are paying the bills, you aren't. It's a whole new world when that bill lands in your lap and you have to start having to pay it.
