Should I cancel my land home phone and use only cell phones?
Question by catseyes: Should I cancel my land home phone and use only cell phones? I'm considering using only cell phones for our family and getting rid of the home phone number (land line). Is there any downside to NOT having a land phone?
Without a land line, you are landless. Should you in the future require a loan from a bank or require to furnish your address, it is through the landline the department checks and defines the place you stay. So a land line is a must otherwise you could be just another terrorist on cellphone.
Some consider land lines more reliable in case of emergency--what if your cell phone's battery is dead and you need to call 911? But that's not really a major concern any more--modern cell phones have extra battery power they can draw on for emergency calls. And these days the cell network is quite as reliable as landlines. I've had only cell phones for a few years now with no problems and I recommend it.
My husband and I are looking into just having cell phones to save money. A downside to not having a land phone is when you possibly lose your cell phone. The only other one is if an employer or family member calls, they will expect you to answer your phone no matter where you are because you can carry it with you at all times.
i haven't had a land line phone for five years. if i want to fax, i use e-fax or j-fax. go for it. you will save some money and you are able to take your "home" phone with you anywhere. if you want to make international calls and not pay high cell fees, go to www.jajah.com. if two people are both jajah members, the call is free from phone to phone and pc to pc, or any combination. if only you are a member, you can make calls to china from the usa for only around 3 cents a minute.
We got rid of our home phone. The only people who call are telemarketers. Cell phones are convenient if you are waiting for a doctor, etc. to return your call. You're not stuck at home waiting. We're also saving money. Cell phones are also nice because you can drive like a maniac while carrying on a conversation.
There are a lot of people right now that have cancelled their land phone and just using their cells as their hime phones right now. Makes sense when you think of it and seeing the benefits of having the cell on you and a call is there or goes right to voicemail.
I always keep a landline phone. When I am not home, I forward my home calls to my cell. That way, I do not miss any calls!! (The caller ID shows up even from my home phone.) If my cell phone is off, the call goes to my cell voicemail, so this works out great for me!! Also this way, someone calling my home number does not need my cell phone number!!
That's what i'm doing now and its not the greatest idea... Unless you have awesome reception in your house, its best to keep your landline phone.... Making 1-800 calls to credit card companies and for business will eat up your minutes unless you can call after 9pm. Once i move to my new place, i'm gonna reconnect the landline phone and give my cell a break.
