Does a cheap cell phone receive signals as well as an expensive one?

Question by dnlyell: Does a cheap cell phone receive signals as well as an expensive one?
My friends can make calls on their more expensive cell phones but I am unable to make calls on my cheap(free) phone. Also do the cell phone companies share the same towers?

Yes. Some cell phone companies do and some don't. Some times your phone wont use the closest tower that works with your phone press *228 option 2 that will take you to the closest tower.

  1. mine did..

and different companies have different towers.. if you get out of your range and have to use another companies, I believe that is 'roaming'.

  2. Depends on the phone, often times price does not equal value, Ill tell you my opinion Nokia and Sony erricsons get the best reception, cheap or expensive. But thats on ATT, other carriers vary, ask friends their experience with brand of phones.

  3. Actually, it doesn't matter really of what kind of cell it is but about the signal you're getting from the towers. My sister and her husband had the exact same phone and both can be charged fully, and my sister's works better than her husband's.

Not really. You can ask your provider what cell towers it will work with and ask around to see what towers you have near you. We have Cingular and Altel but Altel doesn't work from Cingular towers on some phones if you're in roaming.
