I'd suggest two possibilities: either get a phone with large buttons, or get a phone that you can set up to respond to voice commands. Avoid phones with tiny buttons; those take a lot of control, even for people whose coordination skills are "normal."

You cant go wrong with the T-Mobile Comet (check link below). it belongs on top with other top t mobile cell phones models. It has everything you need for a good cell phone.
Good camera, touch screen, surprisingly fast and you can get a lot of apps for it. Hope this helped.

My dad and I both recently purchased Droid phones. He got the Droid X, while I bought the Droid 2. While there is also some other options such as the Droid Pro (more for if you like the blackberry type feel) or the Droid Incredible (a lower-end smart phone)
I love my Droid 2, because it has a keyboard mostly. I have had NO problems with it whatsoever. I personally don't like the Droid X because it has no keyboard. And I hate using on-screen keyboards. My father, however, loves it. He doesn't text much so it simply works for him, and it has a bigger screen. They both have Speech-to-text though (which helps on the X since you don't have an actual keyboard)
If you're looking for a good camera, the Droid 2 has 5 MP, while the Droid X has 8 MP. If that's really important to you, I'd go with the X. But it's all a matter of your needs.

Middle school kids should probably NOT have cell phones, however a good argument may be cell phones are not expensive?
